Bond has a new watch. While we've seen Bond, as currently portrayed by Daniel Craig, wear everything from Planet Oceans to Aqua Terras and even a NATO-clad Seamaster 300 in 2015's Spectre, after a five-year wait Bond's wrist game has changed. For 2020's No Time To Die, Craig will reprise his role as the famed spy while wearing a special version of the Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer.
Something of a return to the form of the Brosnan-era Seamaster, the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition leans on the less-sizzle-more-steak ethos of the Craig-era Bond with a 42mm titanium case, matte black dial and bezel, and a military-adjacent combination of tanned lume and a matching titanium mesh bracelet. Furthermore, the dial and bezel are made from an Omega-specific form of lightweight anodized aluminum and Omega has confirmed that both elements will fade over time. It's subtle, muted, and easily sets itself apart from the standard colorway and polished finishing of its Seamaster siblings.
Offered only in a no-date format, the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition is easy to pick out from a Seamaster line up, as it's an all matte affair. The dial, presented without the usual wave design, is a flat greyish-black with color limited to the tan tone for the lume on the markers and the red text for "Seamaster". Below the lower dial text, we find a broad arrow insignia, the symbol used to mark the issued property of the British government (a nod to Bond's status as a government agent). The case back is closed, showing numbers that correspond to the exact format of mil-issued watches (shown below, right). See that "62"? That refers to 1962, the year that Dr. No introduced James Bond to the silver screen.
The 42mm sizing feels right at home for anyone that has had a "Bond Seamaster" on wrist and, while the 13.15mm thickness (including the double-domed sapphire crystal) may be a bit thicker than that of the Brosnan-era Seamasters, the Diver 300M 007 Edition wears well and houses an excellent METAS Master Chronometer automatic movement, the Omega 8806.
